Celebrating In Spite of Infertility
What if we celebrated our small wins in life more often?
How would that change things for us?
We honor the things society teaches us to praise.
Engagements
Marriages
Babies
New Homes
But what about the everyday things that push us forward in life?
There are so many other things we can celebrate! Some things often go overlooked and are under-appreciated.
Side-note with this, though: You are most likely going to have to take the lead in these smaller celebrations. If you want a party or praise, you may have to inform others that this is what you’re doing. As in many things in life, people are not mind-readers and are often busy worrying about their own lives. So if you want to proclaim your new remodeled home, do not expect others to do this for you. I think this even goes for your birthday celebrations.
Do you want a party?
You plan it.
And be confident with your decisions.
So what other things can we celebrate and how?
Glad you asked!
1- Decide what you want to celebrate!
Here is a list to begin your brainstorming:
New job
Leaving a toxic relationship
Keeping all of your houseplants alive for more than six months
Redecorating your home
Starting therapy
Learning a new skill
Starting a business
Quitting your job
Not marrying the wrong guy
A promotion at work
Making a new adult friend
Donating to charity
Completing a DIY home project
A new pet
Making a big life decision
Voting
2- Decide how you want to celebrate!
You will need to take the lead.
Do you want people to come over? (If it’s 2020, do so responsibly!)
Do you want to be alone?
Here are some simple ideas:
Small dinner party
Hors d’oeuvres gathering
An act of kindness challenge
Self-care day at home (alone or with friends)
Be a tourist in your town and see the sights
Buy yourself something nice
Send out love letters to people you miss in your life
Have flowers delivered to yourself
Go out for a fancy dinner
3-Decide how to show up for your celebration!
Be sure to let people know what you’re celebrating!
Dress up
Decorate your space for the occasion
Clean up area
Set an intention for the celebration
Send out fancy invitations
Showcase your (new skills, new couch, new hair)
We can celebrate anything we want! The people that love us likely would share this love and excitement with you. A friend of mine redecorated her home and had me over for a 90’s theme dinner. It was so much fun and felt like a mini party. When she asked me over to showcase her new fireplace and mantle, I was so excited! It seems so little, but all of these little things add up to much bigger things.
All of the small moments matter. The more we honor these things, the more we see them. Just like when you learn a new word, it often shows up more. Same idea! Lean into what you already have going for you. We all have great things happening in our lives, and we are allowed to make a big deal out of things that matter to you.
What do you want to celebrate in your own life?
